The Materials Department at UCSB was conceptualized and built around one central precept: that graduate education is most effective in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment. Research programs in electronics and photonics, inorganic materials, bio- and macromolecular, and structural materials are constantly evolving, with new, high-impact initiatives emerging on a yearly basis. The intellectual vitality of the Department is maintained through recruitment of the brightest, most talented and diverse community of students and faculty to our program. Through charitable giving to the Department, our alumni and friends help us continue to cultivate the collaborative culture, the hallmark of UCSB Materials, that attracts the students who will become today's leaders for tomorrow's materials.
