Our alumni and friends provide essential support for the Department of Chemical Engineering's teaching programs and research enterprise.
The UCSB Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the profession and the community. The Department is widely recognized as a leading chemical engineering (ChE) program that is ranked second in the United States (National Research Council, 2010). Six of our eighteen faculty members have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, the highest proportion of any ChE department. Modern engineering research tends to be interdisciplinary and many of our faculty members have joint appointments in other departments.
Department research activities seek to develop innovative science and technology that address the needs of industry, the scientific community, and society. The Department seeks to produce chemical engineers who will contribute to the process industries worldwide and provides students with a strong fundamental technical education designed to meet the needs of a changing and rapidly developing technological environment. By participating in faculty research projects, undergraduate and graduate students have opportunities to perform exciting research and create new knowledge. Our Department research activities are also at the cutting edge in many exciting areas. The Department is now poised to deliver world-changing breakthroughs in many fields, including energy, new materials and medicine. We invite you to be a part of discovering the future by supporting the Department of Chemical Engineering.
